“Indigo Bunting” by Annette Alessi
 
  Watercolors can be used for studies, which is how this painting started. For the study, I used a mason board with a special finish that holds many mediums.  I then embellished the painting with oils while keeping the looseness of the watercolor effect "underneath". I refined the bird with details using oils.  This is a new technique I discovered over the summer and I love it!
